Product Description Clarinet player presents an album that is dedicated to the re-introduction & preservation of Greek Folk dances performed in the 'solo klarino' (solo Clarinet) style typical of early 20th Century recordings; due to advances in technology & changing musical interests, future generations are being deprived the opportunity to enjoy firsthand the performing styles of great Greek folk Clarinet music from the 1920s & '30s. About the Artist Jim (Dimitri) Stoyanoff Jim is a native Chicagoan of Greek Macedonian descent who began studying the clarinet in 1962. Since then he has specialized in the research, performance and preservation of Greek Folk music, with particular emphasis on the regional folk clarinet styles of Macedonia and Greece. He was fortunate to have studied with such masters of Greek music as Anestopoulos, Stamelos, and Halkias, who not only taught him the secrets of their artistry, but also provided a deeper insight into the historical evolution of this music. He is one of the most prominent clarinetists in the United States. Jim performs regularly in Chicago within the ethnic communities and has appeared throughout the United States and Greece, in addition to recording and television/radio productions. He has also gives lecture/performances, contributes articles on Balkan folk clarinet to various publications, and is a member of the editorial staff of The Clarinet, a quarterly publication of the International Clarinet Society.
