Good product! I used it to seal up my smoker that was losing smoke around the door opening. This sealed it well and helps keep the smoker cleaner too!

My rating is for the installation only.I read several reviews of the backing being difficult to get off. On my gasket, the manufacturer left an inch of extra length on the backing. Super easy to peal back.The adhesive seemed quite sticky as well.I was planning to apply the gasket to the lid and my Pit Boss Smoker. After applying it to the lid, I decided that another layer on the grill, would probably require longer screws and shims under the hinges.I put some small nuts under the hinges to make the lid fit with even contact around the parameter.I will let it set, with the lid shut, until tomorrow, following the instructions.If smoke leaks out, I will adjust the hinge shims to try to stop the smoke leak.If you have a new smoker, or are planning to buy one soon, clean your grill surface and

This gasket has worked out super well. After cleaning off the black gunk around the lid of my Silverback, it was supereasy to press it on straight. My SS door was never a perfect match for the body, hence the need for the gasket, butafter a thorough evaluation, I eased up the upper lit at the hinges, and the door fit in place quite snuggly. Fix steaks thenext day, and all the smoke stayed inside the body, and didn't leak out the edges of the door. Temp stayed in too, afeature I had overlooked. So, two birds with one stone, as they say. Happy Pit boss now. Get yours if smoke is going out the door, not up the stack.

The Lavalock seal was the exact solution to establishing a good seal for my vertical smoker, and bbq grill. The seal's fit for width and thickness did not hinder the doors/lid from properly closing shut. Installation was simple, I cleaned all the mounting surfaces the seal would adhere to with acetone solvent, applied the seal tape and shut the doors/lid firmly for several minutes to establish a solid bond. The lavalock adhesion is solid, as long as you keep your smoker or grill stored out of the elements. Durability for wear has proven well with the gasket being made of Nomex material. Installing the lavalock seal boosted the performance of my smoker and grill, by keeping the heat from escaping. Thus improving cooking times. for large cuts of meat. Unfortunately this product did not last on my Weber even though I applied as directed (cleaned lid rim/adhesion surface thoroughly and completely) and waited more than the 24hr cure period before using the first time. The product performed well during the first six or so 6-8hr smokes (at less than 325F, I throw in oven at stall). It was great while it was functional and I was able to get stable control of my temp, however after six or so uses the lid started smoking and that’s when I realized the seal had lost its adhesion in one 6-7” area. Removed the product after seeing that there was no use to continue using it. As I removed it it broke into pieces in the area it was leaking-likely heat related deterioration. After reading some recommendations, I bought this for the underside of the lid on my Traeger. After installation, the smoke pours out of the drip tube and smoke stack, no more from the lid. Very satisfied. Had plenty left over too!*UPDATE: Originally purchased and installed September of 2018, it is now February 2020 and while moving my grill lid to another barrel (mine got damaged, thank you traeger for the replacement) I thought it necessary to remove and replace the gasket—even though it was still effective. I used the LavaLock gasket to seal up a new Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5" smoker. The kit was used to do the joint between the Middle section and Lid and the Door. I also installed the Unknown BBQ Hinge and Southco Inc SC-62315 Handle at the same time. If you are going to install this gasket on a WSM I recommend getting the handle at the same time instead of messing with trying to make the original handle work. I left everything sit overnight and fired up the smoker with 16 pounds of charcoal at full open vents to season the smoker. With no water pan, no meat, and a warm day this is the hottest the smoker is going to ever get and the gasket showed no signs of abuse or failure at those temperatures. I had no leakage between the lid and the middle section and only a small amount from the door.

Its incredible how much of a difference this stuff makes! I was given a new grill as a house warming gift but it was definitely not built to be a smoker. After doing some research, I decided I would spend a bit of money to see if I can turn it into one instead of purchasing a dedicated smoker. This $20 (plus some tinfoil) made such a big difference that I don't need to do anything else. I was able to seal the entire top lid from end to end which was a major source of heat loss.I tested the new grill/smoker out this weekend with a 6 hour smoke and the top of the grill was able to keep a very consistent 230 degrees, the entire time.
