Reseña del editor Lydia McCauley’s new CD release, THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH, fuses Lydia’s luminous songwriting and vocals with a brilliant performance from her ensemble of musicians. Third in the series of Brimstone Music’s independent releases, this new album shines like gold on a Tuscan hillside. THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH is an intoxicating celebration of Life! Instrumentation includes whistles, ethnic percussion, viola, mandolin, guitar, double bass, piano and synth. The CD booklet is beautifully illustrated with photos of the Italian countryside. Coloring the compositions with Folk, World Music, and New Age elements, Lydia McCauley combines the past and present, joyfully mapping out new territory for the mind and spirit. Artista biografía It started when I was four or five, this longing to express the beauty of the world through music. One of my earliest music memories is of holding down the damper pedal of the piano and trying to make the tones sound like cathedral bells. I was born in Seattle, but grew up in the South, singing in choirs, playing hymns, studying classical music, and listening to popular music. By the time I reached college, I had developed a keen interest in Appalachian folk music, which I was lucky enough to document at Berea College Music Library, and I learned a host of things there. It took a few years of teaching piano, raising a family, traveling around the world, to realize that one of my truest desires was to sing, write, and record music. I began fulfilling that dream in 1995 with the help of my husband Kurt Scherer. Together we began to build a band of talented musicians that are from an eclectic bouquet of music influences. They have become part of our family. Kurt and I have produced three albums: Sabbath Day's Journey (1998), Entrances (1999), and The Beauty of the Earth (2002) on our own independent label, Brimstone Music. We have toured up and down the West Coast, from British Columbia to Southern California, packed into trucks, vans, and hotel rooms, enjoying our travels together. Our sound has been compared to Loreena McKennitt, (and I consider this a great compliment), our stage is lit with medieval candelabras, and we strive to express the love of beautiful music in our performances. I think it's working. People are starting to show up in large numbers and buy numerous CDs. And so we plan to continue this venture. I still have my foot on the damper pedal of the piano, and quite often we perform our music in cathedrals. I invite you to join us.
